Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) Advisory Committee Interest Form
  • Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) Advisory Committee Interest Form

    Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
  • The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is seeking two volunteers to serve the Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) Advisory Committee for the following roles:

    • A member representing the Public at Large who represents a historically underrepresented community. Public at Large positions may be held by a recreation professional or a private citizen with an interest or background in outdoor recreation.
    • A member representing Cities* with a Population under 15,000.

*Candidates for the position representing cities must be employed by a city or be professionally associated with a city.

Committee Information: The LGGP is administered by OPRD and governed by the LGGP Advisory Committee. This year, the 10-member Committee will meet in late September or early October, for a three-day meeting to score all grant applications. For the 2026 cycle, the Advisory Committee meeting will be meeting virtually via Zoom. Committee members serve four-year terms and are eligible to serve a second term.

Throughout July and August, Committee members need to review 30-40 project applications using ORPD’s online application system. Typically, it takes about 30-40 minutes to review each application, so this can be a significant time commitment leading up to the September/October meeting. In future cycles, it is anticipated that the scoring meeting will be held in June or July with individual application review occurring in May through June.

During the Advisory Committee meetings, 30-40 applicants present their projects in 20-minute timeslots. Committee members score all projects in order to establish a priority ranking list which is then forwarded to the OPRD Commission for final review and approval.

Program Information: The LGGP is competitive grant program funded by the Oregon Lottery and historically awards about $15 million annually to outdoor recreation projects throughout the State. Eligible applicants to the Program are Cities, Counties, Parks and Recreation Districts, Port Districts and Metro. To read an overview of the program, including a list of previously funded projects and a list of current LGGP committee members, please visit the LGGP webpage:

Appointment Process: OPRD will review interest forms and may contact you for an informal interview. Committee appointments are subject to confirmation by the OPRD Director.

Travel & Expenses: Aside from optional project site visits, the committee has been meeting virtually due to state budget cuts. Typically, OPRD covers travel expenses associated with committee meetings (lodging, personal vehicle mileage, per diem for meals not provided, other costs as needed).
